Fluid Nightclub   

Located upstairs from the Latest Dish, Fluid brings together two unlikely, but equally hip, strains of indigenous Philly style. The cozy space, designed by frequent Stephen Starr collaborator Owen Kamihira, is covered with mosaics and other neo-Mediterranean touches. It's friendly but also smart, recalling the work of Spanish architect Antonio Gaudi. Then there's the music: A kind of urban, streetwise mix that does a good job of capturing the multi-ethnic, soulful-electro-breaks mood of Philly nightlife. The club, which opened in 1997, has hosted name DJs like Goldie, Sasha, and Prince Paul, as well as indie hip-hop acts like M.F. Doom and Cannibal Ox. Regular nights include Rich Medina's afro-beat and tru skool beats, ?uestlove (of The Roots) who spins hip-hop and reggae when he's in town, and Major Wood's 'Fast, Cheap and Out of Control,' a trashy night of glam decadence and semi-clothed amateur dance routines, with a winner picked by the audience.
